Going to the Family Thrift store is like going back a few decades. It's located in a large warehouse building, in a mini strip mall that is occupied by a church and basically nothing else.
I was in nostalgia heaven and I was also very happy to have brought in my youngest daughter, because she loved it and found 2 great jackets in the process.
I have always wanted to own one of these old sodas machines. This one is part of the display, right between James Dean, a barrel with a bin of socks.
They sell snacks and coffee certain days of the week at this 1950's soda bar replica.
Since I had my black Cafe Bustelo and brown sugar early that morning, I just hung around enjoying the decor.
Some of the walls posters, the great Marlene!
I wanted the Max Brothers one for me, since they are and have always been some of my favorite comedians of all time.
Gone with the Wind is not at all my favorite; I saw it once and couldn't understand why some of my friends found it so romantic. I just couldn't get over the forced sex thing!!
Chaplin, another one of my favorites. I also was a big fan of his daughter's Geraldine Chaplin. I saw all of hers and Carlos Saura's 1970's films in the late 80s. I was especially taken and disturbed by Anna y Los Lobos.
And yes, of course its not only about the nostalgia; they sell clothes, shoes, furniture, etc.
This is boat load from Family Thrift (from left to right): London Jean jacket, NYP long jacket, Old Navy yellow skirt (made in Vietnam) and Old Navy green skirt (this one in made in India).
This is the boat load from my Salvation Army store: two tunics the one on the left is T-Unikas (I think that they are made in Venezuela, but I'm not sure) and the other one is from ICE, which according to my internet research is an Australian brand.
After I finished washing and photographing my loot; I bathed and changed clothes to go grocery shopping.
I wore:
my comfortable Cros,
old-very-old Levis skinny jeans,
HCO thrifted belt,
My 2004 Beastie Boys concert shirt, which was one of my daughter's first grown up concert and the best one that I ever saw from The Beasties!
No name reversible purse from Steinmart
and a Tommy Hilfiger cardigan
The earrings and necklaces are from Steinmart as well as the bracelet on my right hand, while the one in the left is one of my all time favorite thrift finds.
Groceries for about a week and a half. Well, in reality there is always something finished before the week ends and I have to do another store run.
We eat a lot of vegetables and fruits and for that reason it's not smart for us to buy for more than a week or a week and a half. The Butterfinger and the Reeces are a necessity, just like bananas and my daughters' frozen vegetables. I like to do everything from scratch but now my girls are cooking for themselves and it makes it easier for them to cook the frozen ones instead.
I can't believe than I was able to post twice in less than 7 days!
I give so much credit to all of my bloggers friends that are able to post 3 and 4 times a week.
Even though I love the final results; its hard to balance my work, my family, vintage shopping and fun adventures while writing posts and downloading photos.

Your thrifted items are wonderful. I think I'd love that store. But most I'm crazy for the cardigan. So pretty.

That looks like an incredible shop! I'm surprised you could tear yourself from the cool displays to scour the rails but you did and found some fab buys!
Loving the Beastie Boys tee and all your bling! xxx
Es increíble las cosas bonitas que usted puede encontrar en las tiendas de su ciudad!! Donde yo vivo no hay nada de eso y yo estoy muuuuuuy celosa, jeje. Habrá que volver por esa tienda otras veces!!
O, yeah, I love me a good nosey at peoples groceries! I LOVE grocery shopping in the States, you have SO much interesting choice! Of course, it's the Mexican selection that drives me the most WILD with desire! It's lousy here.
Yay for the Sallies! My favourite thrift shop here is a Sallies. You got some great scores, lovey. I never have luck finding old band T shirts!

Judy, I think you would love it too, especially all the poster and the dinner area.
Wendy, I would love to hang!
I saw the Beasties in Oct of 2004 (I just found a copy of the tickets payment), they were amazing! It was my daughter first grown-up concert that they can remember.
Vivianne, I love my my skirt, they need to be taken a little but besides that they are great!
Vix, I'm so gald that I got to see The Beasties before Adam "MCA" Yauch pass.
Rosy, gracias a Dios por estas tiendas porque sino no se como me vestiria bien con el pequeno presupuesto que me queda para comprarme mi ropa.
Helga, I do like to see what people buy at the groceries stores and what they eat as well! I think it gives me a better sense of a person real personality.
I love Mexican food and can prepare a mean guacamole and huevos rancheros!
Sarah, the egg beater are egg whites with no season or flavors.
We make them every morning with lots of white cheese or Mexican style 4 cheeses, a slice of wheat bread and our black coffee and brown sugar.
It gives you lots of energy and you don't feel hungry for a while.
Wow, that was a pretty good Saturday you had there! Bowling and then charity shopping. I love Sally Army shops too. They are proper charity shops.
Marlene looks like Catwoman, so sexy!
I love that shot of your food shopping. Are butterfingers biscuits of some description? Your breakfasts sound pretty amazing! xxxx

Butterfingers are peanut butter and chocolate sweet.
Sacramento, gracias los mismo a ti y a tu esposo!
The thrift stores in my area have all gone downhill. Prices are up and most of them are not selling a lot of clothes now. Just a lot of household items. *sigh* I may end up having to go back to Value Village which makes me skin crawl as soon as I enter the front door.
I am with Helga. I love looking at what other people have in their carts.

So so glad you are back. Missed your blog when you were gone :)
Birdie, I noticed that from 2010-2011 a lot of the thrift stores prices went up and their inventory was crappy but I guess that the economic boost has improve our thrift stores donations.
Claire, I be more than glad to join you!
Paula, thanks! Sometimes I can do twice a week but is usually once a week for me.
