I Went to Visit my mami...

Saturday after my class I drove to Miami Beach to visit my mom.

Mami and my brother had lived in Miami Beach for the last 10 years. I love visiting the shops, the museum, the restaurants, the beach and people watch at Lincoln Road.

It's a very glamorous and vibrant city. However it's full of extremely rude and aggressive drivers. People drive basically one on top of another, they don't stop at stop signs, don't give you the right-of-way and park and stop anywhere. I drove in Puerto Rico, New York, San Diego, Georgia, Colorado and many, many other places. But Miami is in a class of its own. Don't get me wrong outside their cars most people are very nice, friendly and warm. But when they are behind the wheels... the demons take over.

I had asked Mami to cooked my favorite sopa, (soup). She cooked it 3 days before, froze it and put it in a container for me to take home. I took it home, keep it in the refrigerator and tonight that's what we ate.

The soup is made with my Mom's own broth, organic chicken, organic red meat, sometimes ham (not this time), carrots, potatoes, noddles, rice and garlic.

I added some more garlic a bit of cajun spices

This sopa is usually prepared when your sick with a cold or after a night of heavy drinking. I'm neither at the moment. I just wanted some sopa.

We ate it with some french bread

It taste better than it looks!

Yum! It was very easy to do the dishes

Thanks, Mami. Sorry but not one of my family members wishes to be photographed for my blog.

They are not as out there as I'm!

A Day of...

Today was a day of chores, next week's preparations and reading.

I'm reading:

The Kurt Cobian Journals. I'm finishing it; I bought it 4 years ago and I still have 25 pages until the end. Its so painfully personal that at times you feel guilty to be intruding into his past and unfortunately I know how is going to end.

And

Altars, Bringing Sacred Shrines Into Your Everyday Life by Denise Linn. As I read it; I realized I already have many altars in my home.

Have a fantastic week!!!!

What I wore this past week...

Monday was a training day, so I decided to be very comfortable.

London shirt a gift from Shefali from her trip to London and Paris two years ago. Steinmart cardigan, jeans from Walmart ( both 9 years old). Old pair of Converse.

Bracelets and necklaces from Steinmart a gift from a no-longer friend (7 years old).
Made in Indian purse, purchased at Target (7 years old). Sunglasses, gift from T.

Tuesday, was rainy and windy in the morning so I decided to wear some purple, lavender, pink and brown. Yep, I was trying to see how many colors relations I could do!

A Sandro jacket (3 years old). Wranglers skinny jean, brown belt. Purple shirt from Target (6 years old) Giannini purse from Marshalls (5 years old).

Brown necklaces from my time in San Diego. River rocks bracelets, Saint Jude bracelets and others are all presents from my old supervisor (she made most of them). Rings from an art fair. Steinmart rain boots (2 years old).

On Wednesday all members of my department decided to wear purple for our group photo shoot. The others team members wore jeans and purple shirts. I wore a purple dress and rain boots because it was raining again.

Purple dress from Marshalls.
Lavender Issac Mizrahi cardigan from Target (6 years old).
Rampage purse.

Necklaces, one from an Indian store and the one with the stars was attached to a very ugly purse. I remove it from the purse and gave it away.
All bracelets from my years living in New York. Ring from TJMaxx (3 years old).
My Steinmart rain boots (2 years old). Leggings from youngest daughter

On Thursday I decided for a pop of yellow.
It was a very stressful week and I needed a lot of color stimulation.

Grey shirt from Target (3 years old). New York & Co skirt.
Tianni purse from Marshalls (8 years old).

Necklaces from Steinmart and bracelets from Forever 21.
Rings, a thrift finds. Moccasins and leggings from youngest daughter

Listening to...(4)

Here is what I'm listening to while trying to do classwork...

R.E.M.
Orange Crush,  the "agent orange" used in the Vietnam War not my favorite soda.

George Harrison
My Sweet Lord, I was in love with him as a child. I thought  he was latin because he was the darkest one of The Beatles.

Tracy Chapman
Talkin Bout A Revolution, folk that I can relate to.

B.O.B/Haley Williams
Airplanes, really like Paramore. I took my two girls to see Paramore and No Doubt together during the summer of '09 at the Cruzan Amphitheater in West Palm Beach.

Robert Plant and The Honeydrippers
Sea of Love, beautiful Robert, the video is also lovely.

Led Zepellin
Trampled Under Foot,  favorite Led song. I saw Robert Plant in 1988 in Lakeland, Florida for his Now and Zen tour and when he sang this song I almost pass out from excitement.

Janis Joplin
Me And Bobby McGee, the great Janis!!!

Iggy Pop
Lust for Life,  love Iggy, The Stooges and Trainspotting.

Midnight Oil
Beds are Burning,  Peter Garret is so sexy!

Wilfrido Vargas
Abusadora (the women is the abuser!), a different take on relationships. Saw him in concert during the mid 80's in San Juan, P.R.

Flowers, Flowers

Some flowers around the house...

These flowers are everywhere in Florida and they only open for a day

Lovely color but it has thorns all aver

It was 47 degrees when I took this picture (freezing for us)

Pick some for our dinning room table

 Lovely color

By my room wall

This ones are consider weeds. I pick them for my bathroom

Some of the inside flowers...

A painting from Shirley Novak. Purchased on sale with another discount on top of sale price because of a small scratch

I bought this fabric because of  the yellow, red and lavender flowers. When it got cold I decided to use it as curtains

I purchased this sort of wall hanging (I'm not sure what it was used for) back in 1994 at a garage sale in Governors' Island, New York. I just love it

Great large oranges tulips  ( It's hang straight, I just took a crooked picture)

I bought this one from an well known store for $2.00. This particular day I purchased many other items and I did not know that the painting was $2.00 until I tried to hang it on the wall that night.

Another fantastic $8.00 find at a furniture store that was going out of business

A smaller Shirley Novak.  I got this one at Marshalls for a fraction of the original price

I made the pillow covers 6 years ago. The flowers on the fabric are the same ones I had in my backyard

Love the message and the small flowers in this painting. A sale from Home Goods

Old comforter with the yellow flowers

I got this one at Target 5 years ago

                                           Betsy Johnson  perfume box

 I'm really into flowers!!!
