I was tag...

A while back I was tagged with two awards from the amazingly stylish and fashionably well-versed
Terri and Viviane.

The terms are to reveal 7 or 10 things about oneself and to share what is on my make-up bag.

I decided to mix both concepts and just share some of the stuff I do to keep myself in check to be able to live my life and keep up with my kids, family and friends.

These are my tune-ups tools.

This are my make up essentials:
I use the Avon concealer around my eyes because I've have dark circles around my eyes since the age of 7 or 8. Its an inherited trait from my father and from his mother.

The base and powder are Cover Girl, and the Maybelline best-seller great lash mascara.

The lipstick, lips glaze and eye pencil are from Avon; I have few more colors in my makeup bag.
I buy Avon and Mary Kay products because believe it or not when I was a young girl in the mid to late 70's most companies didn't make makeup for women of darker complexion.

Avon and Mary Kay were very popular in Puerto Rico when I started to wear makeup and they took care of us brown girls.

This is my thrifted makeup bag, here are the rest of my lipsticks, eye shadows, eye pencils, lips glazes and my faithful powder brush. As you can see I don't have any blush. I always have difficulties finding one that I really like or that goes well with my skin. I know they are out there I just haven't cared to find them.

Here is the part that I share some stuff about myself beyond the makeup bag.

I use extra virgin olive oil on my face, neck and body right after a shower at least 3 times a week. By the time I'm ready to go to bed I remove it with a very cold wash cloth.

I also use honey in any area of my face, neck or body where there is any blemishes. I apply it right after my shower and again I remove it with a cold wash cloth before bed. I don't want to become a human bug collector while I lay sleeping.

I use the coffee grinds to exfoliate my entire body during my showers and it supposed to help combat cellulite. Hey we all have it; unless you get it surgically removed and/or go through many suction spa treatments it's going to be there in many areas of your skin like a faithful "friend".

This are the creams that keep my chocolate skin soft and protected.

I was born on an island and lived on another for many years, traveled and lived in many parts of The USA and now I'm living here in South Florida; during all of my life I had applied on lots of sunblock and had stayed away from excessive sun exposure . I wore so much sunblock during my college years in P.R. that my mami used to said she could smell me a mile away.

My night cream is from Avon for women over 40, my day cream is from the local pharmacy for women that want to spend less than $20.00 and my body lotion is my favorite and it was on sale at my local pharmacy. I change body lotion often; I like to try different brands and different mixture of elements. However I don't like fragrance in my body lotions.

This is the shampoo, conditioners and the leave in conditioning cream that I use to try to control my hair from sticking up like Edward Scissorshand's hair. I also change my shampoo and conditioner often (always going for the cheapest brands) because hair gets used to the shampoo ingredients making it less effective.

This is my remedy when I feel bloated and sluggish after spending some time over-stuffing my mouth!!
This is my brown rice and vegetables; I eat this for lunch and dinner for a couple of days to settle my system and allow it me to get back to my normal self.

DISCLAIMER:  I'M NOT A DOCTOR OR PLAY ONE IN BLOGGER LAND.
I ALSO AM NOT YOU: SO WHAT WORKS FOR ME AND MY BODY IS NOT NECESSARY GOING TO WORK FOR YOU OR YOU BODY AND I'M NOT GIVING ANYONE MEDICAL ADVICE OR TELLING YOU TO DO WHAT I DO.

This is my home gym; I only exercise at home or walk or dance because I don't ever, ever, ever feel like driving to any gym!

I need to wear the ankles and wrist weights all the time because they help to strengthen my knees and hands which had giving me problems before.

I would like to tag the following bloggers because I'm curious to know what is in their makeup bags and how the take care of themselves:

Have a great week,

Ofelia, this is such a spectacular idea! I love your post and sharing personal methods that are effective in keeping us gawjus. I love the idea of the coffee grinds and the honey. does the avon concealer really work? - i have had dark circles forever and my daughter and my mama did too.
This is such fun.
I'm going to check the blogs of all the girlies that you chose.

Paula, the Avon concealer does work and I also like the one from Mary Kay. They are a bit more expensive than the ones at CVS but they are worth the extra few dollars.

Hi there, what a great post! Interesting, that you use oil and honey for face and body care, too. Btw: olive oil is also great for hair care, especially for the ends and to add some shine :) have a great week!

Love the idea with the honey - I must try it :)

Thanks for the tip about the brown rice and vegetables. I'll have to try that the next time I over-indulge in restaurant food. Coconut oil is also good for body care. We also use it for cooking.

How interesting about the coffee grounds, honey and olive oil. They are all things I already have in my cupboards so I'm going to give them a try. I'd much rather take beauty advice from you, Ofelia, a genuine, non-airbrushed and gorgeous woman than a magazine tutorial with a hidden agenda.
Thanks for tagging me, I shall enjoy this challenge! x

VERY impressed with your natural beauty routine! I switch products too--it seems to help their effectiveness. Love the oil of olay line too--very inexpensive also. You go girl!

Sarah, I remember now!!!!
You know the mind it's not as sharp as before! I guess I'll need to eat some of my honey instead of putting on my face.

Ofelia said...

Vivianne, thanks for the olive oil tip. I used to put it on my hair after I colored it but it ended up too greasy so its great to know that I can just do the ends.

Ofelia said...

Mrs. Exeter, I just used it last night!

Ofelia said...

Donna, in the islands we use a lot of coconut oil to cook and for our bodies also.

Ofelia said...

Lyosha, thanks so much! You are very young and I imagine that you probably have less steps to do to take care of yourself.

Ofelia said...

Vix, I hope that all this natural products work well for you as they do for me. And thanks for the beyond lovely compliment!

Ofelia said...

Yoana, thanks! I think because I grow up around natural prepared foods that is easy for me to go back to nature when looking for beauty solutions.

Ofelia said...

Paula, I guess great mind think alike!

Love the fact that you use Avon. Some people think that just because it's been around so long, that it isn't high quality. You like the Great Lash? I am searching for a great mascara!

Deb, I'm faithful to Avon and Mary Kay as a matter of fact Avon is one of the most advance companies when it comes to the creation of new creams and products for women over forty. And yes, Great Lash mascara works very well for me and it's so inexpensive.

Definitely adorable! You are very wise ... I have to add honey to my beauty routine, so far I use yogurt to moisturize the skin, you're right ... Mother Nature knows best ...

Ofelia said...

Rosy, Mother Nature knows best and gives us everything we need and want but we just have to take some time to listen.

I use the same shampoo and need to use the product for the dark circles under my eyes. I have used the olive oil on my face...but perhaps not consistently enough. It's always nice to have a product that you can get double duty out of.

Ofelia said...

Terri, you so right using a product from our kitchen for our beauty routine its doubling the goods.

I've also always had darker circles underneath my eyes... I use some concealer by garnier every day (it's the only thing I will use every day).

I loved reading this and now I am curious if your recepe helps me too when I have over-endulged with food :)

Angie, I think the dark circles around our eyes is something that many of us women and men of all ages share.

Hi Lovely, thank you for tagging me. I love your tip about the coffee grounds. Yup, I agree with you on the olive oil. I sometimes rub it on my poor old feet - on the hard and cracking bits (ugh - sorry, too much info, I know..). When my daughter was a baby, my partner would rub it on her scalp to combat cradle cap (I think it's called). It would make what little hair she had stand up on end - like a little mohican! xx

Loo, this is a such a funny comment. You make me laughed about the TMI and your baby's hair!
