End of The Year Luncheon...

This was my job's end of the year luncheon at The Pine Island Ridge Country Club and it took place on June 10th.
I have a negative view of  country clubs; when I lived in Puerto Rico I went to many weddings at country clubs and find them and the people that frequent them snobby and judgemental (well this is a bit judgemental too but this was my personal experience).

So my expectation were to be loud, have a good time and annoy some snobs!

I wore:

Willi Smith dress, thrifted long ago (2003 or 2002).
Target cardigan, very old as well.
No name sandals from SteinMart.
Necklaces and bracelets from SteiMart and from 2006 or maybe older.

This lovely little purse was a thrift find the same week of the luncheon.
I found it in the $1.99 box with four other very nice and colorful purses on June 8th at the Salvation Army in Ft. Lauderdale.

The handles are made from wood and the inside is lined in silk.
No tag or designer name on it but it looks like many of the made in Hong Kong or
made in Indonesia purses that I own.

This is the dress flowery print. The fabric is very soft to the touch and its stretchy.

The Country Club parking lot had these magnificent trees with many singing birds that sound like a nature cd as I walked from my car to the building.
When I spend time in Georgia (in Carrollton and Savannah) I saw similar trees with moss hanging that used to give me the creeps, especially at night.

Before going into the luncheon I meet many of my co workers outside so we could go in together and sit together.

I walk around the gardens and took some photos. These hanging flowers were too enchanting and they needed their own photo.

A butterfly getting her lunch as well.

Out table; it was divided by teams so we really didn't have to meet before in order to secure being sitting together!
The theme was holidays around the world; our table was the Halloween one.

Hey another posing opportunity and another co worker willing to take my picture!

This salad looks and was delicious however it was $23.00!
It may not sound like a lot of money for other people but it was for me. I mean I really enjoyed it and I had a lot of fun with my co workers but really $23.00??

This was our end of the year celebratory cake!
I usually don't write much about my work because the way I see it: "I work to live, not live to work" .
I also keep my blog separate from my work; very few people at work know about my blog and I like to keep it that way.

After lunch, my supervisor (who is a club member because she lives in this area) took us for drinks at the restaurant/bar located at the club's lower level and right next to it was the pool and the lake.

It was another amazing day in South Florida and some of the people around the pool were giving us the "are you freaking tourists? why are you taking picture?" look.

I behaved quite nicely and wasn't asked to leave, and I actually had a good time; the salad and the bread was great, the drink was even better, the employees were very nice and I enjoyed spending time with my co workers and supervisors outside work without having to worry about paper work and deadlines.

Tabouleh, I did enjoyed it specially because some of my co workers were leaving to work at another state or to another county.
Thanks on my butterfly and flower photo.

The bag is lovely. I am still in shock about the 23 dollars. I confess the photos made me a tad jealous - I covet an island holiday.

What lovely pictures - I love how you co-ordinated your outfit perfectly with the colour of the swimming pool LOL! Are you sure you don't secretly hang out there all the time?

Salad looks nice but v. expensive even for us Europeans! Glad you all had a good time away from work, and it looks like a great day. xxx

Ofelia--this is a really fresh look and I love the little purse you found. I wouldn't pay $23 for a salad, although it looks delicious.

You look beautiful, Ofelia. Love the dress and the purse is amazing. Glad you enjoyed your lunch despite your reservations about the Country Club. Mrs E is right - that's one expensive salad!

Brenda, thanks os much for your lovely comment! And I guess the contry club prices are not there for people on my salary range!

Mrs. Exeter, thanks.
I just notice the color similarity after you mention it; so yes of course I planned it (not)!
The salad was delicious and the company was even better but that price was stuck on my mind for a while.

Vivianne, by the way I like the changes you made to your blog and your new photo.

Terri, I love my little fushia purse and I pay it so I can spend time with my team because some of them were leaving to another school, another distric or another state.

Ofelia said...

Loo, thank you very much.
I was able to get over my old experiences and really enjoyed this one for what it was.

i just love it :)

Rosy, no se por que todos estos country clubs son tan caros; la comida es buena pero los precios son ridiculos.
Muchas gracias por sus comentarios tan bonitos!

Sue, thank you so much!

Selenite, I know it was a great day when I was able to wear color and being around trees as well as having fun with friends.

Lyosha, thank you!

Clairejustine, the bag was such a great a cheap find!

You look so relaxed and happy!! Boy, you sure do go to a lot of parties haha!! You seem to be so much fun and so nice, so I am not surprised that you get invited everywhere. I agree, $23 bucks for a salad is exorbitant!

Ofelia said...

Ambuji, this was my job end of the year lunch and that was the only reason why I paid so much for a salad (trust me it was good but not $23.00 good).
Some of my co workers were leaving to another state, to another county or to another school and I wanted to spend some time with them before they were gone.

Loving that gorgeous bag and you look just fab! $23 dollars for a salad does seem pretty steep, good job it was delish! xx

I also work to live :) and when I read $23 I thought you were going to say: which is quite cheap, but you didn't and I agree :) $23 is A LOT of money for that salat :)

Anyhow, I love your dress, your matching cardigan, the pop of pink, cutest clutch ever :)

I have never been to a country club... I don't know if we have them in belgium, do they have a certain purpose or??

Have a fab weekend!!

xxx

ps: I think you noticed I have been interviewing people again: just so you know... I have my eye on you ;) (I already have quite a few people who have their questions ready... so it might take a few weeks, but I am planning on asking you too)

That's a headline! $23 salad. Hope it was filling at least. But spending time with your departing co-workers makes for a good memory.
I am desperate to go to the Salvation Army in F.T. Is there a particular one that is really worth visiting?

Luv, luv the bag.

Elizabeth, I love my little bag and I'm glad that I'm not the only one that finds the salad a bit pricey!

Ofelia said...

Angie, thanks for thinking about me for your interviews! Thats is very cool and I can't wait.

Country Club are form to keep people that live in certain areas, play a certain sport or have similar interest entertaint and you have to pay to belong to them. You can also rent their spaces for lunches, parties and weddings.

Ofelia said...

Paula, its was worthy the money to spend time with some of my co workers before the move on to another position or state.

The best Salvation Army store in Ft Lauderdale is on Broward Blvd. right before you get to the downtown and Las Olas area.

have you changed your mind about country clubs? Altho, I totally agree. Loathe them and all their snobby members--lol. Love that cute little bag tho-have i told you YOU are the bag queen? That doesnt sound too good tho, does it? Love Paula :~)

Ofelia said...

Yoana, yes I did have a lot of fun!

Ofelia said...

Paula, it's ok I take the bag queen tittle any time!
I had a lot of fun but I wouldn't go to any country club just to hang out because when my co workers and friends are not around I still would have to deal with the snobs.

Vix said...

I don't think we have such a thing as a Country Club here, but at $23 for a salad I don't think I'd be in any rush to visit.
Your bag (and everything else you're wearing) is stunning. Your posts always make me smile and feel the sunshine on my skin. xxx

Vix, you too kind!
I love my fushia bag and specially the $1.99 price.

That purse is adorable!

and in my opinion $23 for salad is a little bit ridiculous.
