A friend invited me to a barbecue at one of her friend's houses in Weston, Fl.
I was to bring some desserts and myself with an empty stomach in preparation of ample food and good alcohol.
This was going to be another multi-Latino gathering. The lady of the house Bertha is from Mexico, my friend Maria is from Cuba, Eric is from Puerto Rico raised in The States and the other Maria is from Nicaragua.
I wore:
New York&Co made in Vietnam shirt, tied in the back because it's XL and
I did not have the time to sew it in.
No boundaries strapless dress, worn as a skirt.
Both items were thrifted at My Salvation Army store on the Wednesday (half price day) before.
I took this photo at Bertha's house because I was running a bit late and I didn't have the time to
take pictures at home.
Once I came back home I took all of my accessories photos.
These two necklaces are from 2003 or 2004 and they were very inexpensive because they were missing some beads.
The bracelet on the left is from JCPenney, the others are from DOTS and from a co-worker
that used to make me jewelry.
Victoria's Secret little purse, thrifted the same day as the dress/skirt and the shirt.
The dress /skirt print.
We had a loud and extensive conversation over some appetizers and drinks.
The Heineken was my drink of choice.
I wasn't able to post the group photos because I didn't got their permission and now some of them
are out of the country on vacation.
Some more drink choices.
When I was in college I used to drink Kahlua with Vanilla Haagen-Dazs ice cream.
So sweet and always brought a smile to my face! Now I prefer a good beer or wine instead.
This is in the back of the townhouse before they started to cook.
The shirt looks blue in the sun but it's really the same purple as the skirt.
It was a beautiful very hot day with a bit of a breeze, and we were surrounded by many trees and hundreds
of millions (exaggeration sign here) of fruit flies and other bugs.
More of the green; to better breath in, my dear.
The breeze was moving the palm trees around and the skies were evoking some
relaxing sentiments in all of us.
I was really about to take a nap with all the lovely breeze and serenity but the nasty bugs were all over.
I probably ate one or two while I was talking.
Well, they're protein!
Mr. Eric did all the barbecuing and we took the food inside the house because of the pestilent Floridian bugs.
The outside table was very nicely done and the flowers were beautiful.
However the bugs had been there before us Homo sapiens and they won back the patio space that afternoon.
Rice, two different kinds of salads, some home made dressing
and chimichurri sauce.
This was my plate; I got seconds afterwards.
The chicken and meat were brought up from Nicaragua and frozen until the night before.
The chicken and the cow meat comes from a free range farm of a relative of Maria's that also owns a meat market.
I usually only eat organic meats at home but I must tell these meats were the most incredible tasting pieces of meat that I have since I left Puerto Rico in '99. Way better than any of the organic meats I buy.
They were rich in flavor and had such a perfect combination of tenderness and remarkable natural taste that I really can't described.
All of us were just eating and making YUMM sounds; the only talk was about how delicious the meat was!
This was my last drink of the day. I drank it while eating the delicious meat.
I was in love with this couch; it remind me of Joan Miro.
I brougth the desserts from my local supermarket because I can't bake; I burn everything beyond recognition!!!!
This pastry cheese thingy is something that we have for or with our breakfast, but it can be eaten at any time during the day accompanied by some black coffee and milk. It's made with guava, cheese and so many other no-so-good for you ingredients.
Another view of the beautiful skies before leaving to go home.

Creative way to wear a dress! Love the necklace and purse.
Wendy, thank you! Specially coming from you whom I admire as an artistic jewelry creator!
really love the purse! wishing we would have such wonderful warm weather here ...
Oh, my God!!

You are looking mighty fine. And your pics are so pretty that it looks like you're a professional. Thanks for sharing your good times..
Vivianne, thank you about my purse.
And yes; our weather is lovely but right now we are having rain every day and the bugs are everywhere. I guess we can always complaint! However despite the rain we are still lucky with such a beautiful place to live.
judy, thank for complimenting my photography skills.
Photography has been a hobby of mine since the late 70's and I usually drive my love ones mad because I want to take photos of everything and everyone.
Tell me about those studded sandals, Ofelia. I think I'm in love.
Theres so much colour in today's post, I'd love to fly over and share a Heineken with you, bugs and all!
Have a great weekend! xxx
The deserts look so yummy, love the pattern on your dress/skirt and your necklace looks fabulous, great photos :)
Your skirt is darling! I don't bake either. I hate baking. Make a huge mess then eat it and I get fatter. meh
Vix, sharing a Heineken and some bugs sounds so cool and somehow like an appetizing experience!
Oh, my sandals I forgot to write about them: they are my old Steve Madden sandals that I got 3 years ago.
Clairejustine, you see why I don't have the strength and inspiration that you have to stay fit; all the food, drinks, dessert and just lounging around that we do. Well, really those are just good excuses I came up with!
Birdie, I love to cook and I tried baking many times before and I always end up burning everything. So why even bother; I just purchased the desserts or bakes goods at my groceries store.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time. It is true that beef fed on grasses has a different flavor than feedlot meat. I'm admiring your new bag and I totally believe the tee is the same color as the skirt. Purple is the most difficult color to photograph.
Cheers to the bugs!
What a beautiful story you tell Ofelia! It is so relaxing and I want to be there to enjoy some Kahlua and cream, sit amongst the lush greenery (don't see much of that in desert Southern California) and just chit chat with you about life. It is an art to present a day in photos and capturing narration. You have that art! Love the purse, it looks vingate and not Victoria's Secret at all. You have the eye to make things look beautiful!
Terri, the meat had such an unique taste and it just felt so natural; just like what I used to eat growing up in P.R. and Dom. Rep.
You are so right about puple it looks so different in the sunlight and with the flash.
Ambu, I'm very grateful for your lovely comment.
It would be a welcoming pleasure to have some drinks and discuss the splendors and downpours of life with you!
I think you are a person who enjoys the flavor of life and the best is that you know how to tramsmit it. Great post of a wonderful day.
Hugs. Yoana
Yoana, I do enjoy the good and the crazy that life have to offer and specially the time I spend with my friends and family.
You look so beautiful, as always, Ofelia! I love the dress as skirt (I usually do the reverse: skirt as dress!) and all of your beautiful accessories.
Sarah xxx
Sarah, thank you my dear! I only once tried the skirt as a dress but it was difficult keeping it in place and not flashing everyone around me.
I read this last night and I must say: that bbq party looks like the perfect summery event!! I wish I had one right now :D
I love the way you always mix and match prints and colors, like with this outfit I love how the necklace and skirt (top) color-coördinate...
Have a great day!!
xxx
Hi my dear-the flowers and food are totally gorgeous, sounds like such a nice evening with wonderful friends and you look lovely as always!! xxx
Angie, it was a perfect Summer outing and thanks so much about my outfit.
Sharon, the flowers colors were almost un-real and the food was amazing.
Ofelia, can I borrow your life for just a week?
are the ankle jewels part of the sandal or your creativity. Love that.
Paula, its more busy and crazy than what it looks. That's why I need these moments of fun, food and some alcohol!
The sandals are some of my old Steve Madden shoes from long ago when I was able to buy stuff retail and at regular prices; the jewels are part of it.
