Saturday May 21st my friend Jenny had the wedding of one of her closest friend and she took me as her companion. We split the present expenses and I did all the driving.
Thank the gods for good friends that think of me when they need someone to have fun with.
I don't believe in marriage for me (been there done that kind of deal) however I believe that other people should go for it if that's what they want to do and I'm more than happy for them, and for me for having the opportunity to celebrate their union.
I also would like to see some of my gay friends get the chance to experience being married with the same opportunities that we have. You don't have to agree with me but this is my blog and I can "express my very deep and thoughtful ideologies" (sarcasm here) if I want to!
This dress is a couple of sizes bigger but I still got it because it fits around my breast area and that's
the most difficult part for me to fit when I buy dresses.
This dress is also the last retail and regular price item that
I got for myself almost 3 years ago.
Calvin Klein dress, almost 3 years old. Mudd sandals.
Grace Elements cardigan is also a bit larger but the color was too bright to let it go, almost 3 years old too.
This necklace was a gift I gave myself after a very difficult period of my life back in 2006-2007.
It was a bit pricey but I deserved it!!!!
All bangles are thrifted from "my" Salvation Army store.
Purchased in the last month.
Lottie Dottie purchased back in 2003. This designer is from South Florida and her bags were very popular back in the early 2000's.
This is the chandelier at the Cadet Hotel lobby.
The Historical Cadet Hotel lobby.
Me and Clark! No we are not dating, just friends!
This hotel is a diamond among the beach rocks. It's in the middle of Miami Beach's busy streets and just 2 blocks from the beach.
The hotel is located in James Ave, Miami Beach. The staff was amazing and the hotel atmosphere is like a 1940's movie.
An integrated 1940's movie.
You don't see any of these phones anymore. It was conveniently by the bar, in case you want to drink and dial.
We went to the room where the bride and the maid of honor were getting their make up done to bring them some cameras, and I took this photo of the hallway. It's very modern in contrast to the lobby and gardens and has some spectacular black and white photographs on the walls.
The big cow-like skin chair in the room were the bride was. It was skin-softly-comfortable.
The hotel entrance.
My friend Jenny and I. She was the sexy mama and I was the colorful mama.
This is the garden area right by the bar exit.
Now, I want to copy this tranquil and serene
atmosphere into my backyard.
We walked two blocks to the beach for the ceremony. These are some of the larger hotels by Collins Ave.
People on their cars were blowing their horns at us. We were about 25 people, all dress up with a catholic father in full gear, walking towards the beach! Quite a procession.
The world renown Delano Hotel.
Walking towards the ceremony area, right by the ocean...
You see I do go the beach!
This was the view before we started to walk in the sand.
Sorry the photos are a bit out of order. I took about 40 photos so at times it was difficult to decided which one to post and which ones to let go.
The ceremony atrium branches, were installed by the groom and his friends and according to the story he told the branches were cut from a not so secret location that same morning.
It was a beautiful, brightly sunny and slightly windy day at Miami Beach.
The gave us parasols to protect us against the sun and the wind (I had to keep mine very close to my body because the of the wind) and flip flops to walk in the sand.
I was so happy to be there, it was magical.

Another one of my close ups. I guess I'm starting a new on my face photos trend.

As she walk by, I took this photos...
I love her dress train. I thought the combination of flowers, sand and the train was very pleasing to the eye.
Many beach goers came around and took videos and pictures of the ceremony and
of all of us sitting around.
They had a harpist playing and a young girl sang a lovely song right before the
bride and groom walk back to the hotel as husband and wife.
The rest of us were leaving to go back to The Cadet while the bride and groom close family stay behind
for more pictures.
As we all walked back, I turned and took this picture of the sunset.
Photos like this ones are the best reasons to have a beach wedding.
By the gardens with my first of drink of wine. I also drank some champagne later on this evening and that was it; because I did not wanted to feel sleepy on my drive back home. Specially since I was up from 5:30 a.m.
The table was decorated with these beautiful yellow flowers and the gave us all a bouquet of them to take home, along with a ribbon heart coin.
The hotel restaurant, Pie a' Terre, did a buffet style dinner. It was delicious and they had a variety of foods as well as very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
The mini sandwiches were good to look at and even better to eat.
The pink sauce was great. I don't know what was made of but whatever it was I enjoy it.
I meet the restaurant event coordinator at the reception and took the time to tell her that the food was fantastic and the customer service was amazing. I usually take the time to express my joy and gratitute to the people that work on the service industry because more often you hear the bad reviews and not the good ones.
The groom and the bride released some white balloons into the starry night.
A view of the cake. It was stunning.
Proving once more that sometimes "keeping it simple stupid", works!
The flowers were quite delicate and lucious.
A view without the flash.
I love wedding cakes!
I'm getting one for my November birthday.
The cake was as good as it looks!!
I got out of the conga line to take this picture and the went back in.
We were dancing for about 2 hours or... maybe longer.
This is the "sitting pool".
Here is the DJ spinning his magic. The music was a great variety of old Salsa and Merengue and some new latin Pop and Latin Hip-Hop.

The restaurant entrance (Pie a' Terre) as we were heading out into the night.
Of course I said "congratulations" to the gorgeous couple and thank them for the invitation.

I'm going to another wedding on July 2.
I'll keep you posted.
I'm sorry for such a long post and thanks so much for reading it!
Have a healthy and fun week,

Shulamit, thanks for taking the time from your job and college applications to comment on my blog. It means a lot to me.
I was the only yellow and pink lady at the wedding!
I really enjoyed this post! Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Birdie, I'm glad that you enjoyed and I hope that you and your love ones are doing good.
That yellow dress is divine! And pairing it with that beautiful pink is divine inspiration. You look magical.
Bella, you are so sweet. Thanks so much!
Yellow is one of my favorite colors and pink, well who doesn't love a bit of pink.
apart from the beautiful outfits, the chandelier at the Cadet Hotel lobby is so stunning!

What a gorgeous post, Ofelia! Like you, I'm not into weddings but what a stunning location , that hotel, that beach...arghhhhh!
Your Calvin Klein dress was worth every penny, you look so beautiful. The pink cardi and beaded bag were an inspired choice. xxx

Ofelia your blogs are so descriptive that one feels transported to the venue. You narrate a story from the start to the end and take the reader with you on the journey.
First,I love the fuchsia and yellow combination. It is daring, bold and hip. It suits you perfectly with the pulled back hair! This shows if one has style, Brands are irrelevant. Second, the photos of the wedding venue have a personality of their own. I love the retro phone and truly miss this dial-ups in the hi-tech era.
Third, the wedding by the sands and water makes it truly look heavenly.
Fourth, I absolutely agree that it is your blog and you can express your ideologies the way YOU want. If someone does not like it, well they don't have to read it haha!!
Fifth, I can literally feel the cake melt inside my mouth. I live for cake and you made me salivate!! Well done Ofelia, great blog!
This was such a lovely wedding. I loved the photo of the yellow rose petals with the sand and veil; beautiful combination.
So you are a november-person too :) my birthday is November the 25th :) what's yours? I love the cake, love the wedding itself (I can only dream of a seaside-wedding like that one since we only have a cold shore in the west of Belgium)
You look great in your colorful outfit! I love the pink in combo with yellow, especially love the necklace and such a cute purse!! I know someone with exactly the same style as you!!
Have a great day!
Hi my dear-wow what a stunning post, an ocean wedding is truly beautiful and it was lovely you were a part of it. Your outfit is gorgeous, I love the vibrant pink and yellow combination, you looked so nice. Great photos too, the cake looks delicious indeed xxx
Vivianne, I love this hotel! It has such an fantastic atmosphere.
Mrs. Exeter, thanks so much!
I've been to many, many weddings but this one was one of my top ones because it was simple and delightful.
Michelle, thanks so much! I know that you just came back from your lovely vacation in the beaches of Thailand so I appreciate that you took the time to comment on my blog.
The nyanzi report, It was (like you said) a smashing time!!!!
Vix, thanks my darling. I was worry because I wanted to included so many more photos and write some more about what went on... but I was able to control myself a bit. The Calvin dress was a great investment and a memorable retail purchase.
Miss Aa, I also adore my necklace. I got it for myself at a time that I needed something to lift me up and it did.
Ambu, I'm very pleased that you feel transported to my life when you read my blog. It took me some time to decided to start posting about my outings, my family and friends.
At the beginning of my blog I thought I should just post about my life without photos or just about my thrift finds or my outfits. Eventually I decided that is ok to include all aspects of the life that I'm leaving. I had always been involved in many social, political and religious events but I was apprehensive to discuss them out into blogger land.
As you can see that is not the case anymore.
Jude, I was very happy with those particular photos, I also thought they were beautiful.
Angie, my birthday is also on November 25th!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe you can have a seaside-wedding if you plan it well. Probably not in Belgium but some caribbean island and I want an invitation!
Sharon, thanks so much. The entire evening was magical and joyful.
Ahhhh, I was just transported to the Delano!!!! We were there in Feb. with friends and how nice it was to see a wedding there!
Ofelia, you are wonderful at telling this story through pictures. Really enjoyed this.
Love that yellow dress and looks great on you--you colorful mama, you! Love, Paula
Paula, I know you probably miss the beach so I'm glad that I was able to take you there again!
Yes, I'm usually the colorful mama at most of my outings.
What a wonderful place to get married.
Lovely pics, my dear Ofelia.
Todas tenemos una zona dificil de ajustar, jejejejej. Tú el pecho, yo las caderas, pero nos queremos, nos gustamos y a ser felices que son dos días.
Me encantaría conocerte algún día...

I love this post great photo, great wedding photos and your outfit is great ( i want this outfit )i love the yellow/pink theme and the necklace is fabulous...thank you for stopping by my blog too :)

Thanks for your nice comment, my smile is for you dear ofelia.
Clairejustine, thank you and I'm so glad that you enjoy it the same way that I always enjoy reading your blog.
Yoana, the sofa was very comfortable and the evening was amazing. Thank you about the smile!
Hi Ofelia,
This post brings back memories. Three years ago I got married at Curacao. Very small and intimate, just like the pictures suggest. Are you color blocking here? Love the yellow dress, it looks so summer-like.
You're shiny in this outfit, I love it ! The bright meeting of yellow and pink is amazing ! And the necklace, wow, MAGNIFIQUE !!!
http://selenite.weebly.com
Nefferth, I've been in Curacoa or like we Caribbean Latinos called it Curazao, only once and it was breath taking. I can just imagine how lovely your photos and memories most be!
Nefferth, I'm not color blocking or maybe I'm without knowing it! I just love the yellow dress and I got the cardigan the same week to wear with the dress around 3 years ago.
Selenite, thanks so much! I do love the combination of the yellow and pink and I adore my necklace and how it brought me some happiness when I bought it and it still does.
What a beautiful wedding! I am impressed with the 1940s vibe! You look smashing in the yellow and that necklace is wonderful.
Two years ago Keith and I attended a "commitment ceremony". The couple used their event to make a political point about marriage...and they will not marry, civilly, until all people have this right.
Looks like a beautiful ceremony....and you're picture perfect in that cheerful pink and yellow combo!
Terri, I'm in love with this hotel and its 1940's inspired decor!
Like I said before I was married before and it was misery for me but I believe that anyone that wants to get marry should be able to!
Wendy, it was beautiful wedding!
Thanks for the compliment on my outfit!
I love the color combination and I was very pleased how I put it together with some of my old accessories and my thrift finds.
What a beautiful and special time you shared with us. Everything so dreamlike. And you as usual beautiful and full of joy. You should be giving community school classes to help people find the joy in life that you do. I am really, realy serious. I would come to your neck of the woods for that.
Paula, my dear friend, I'm glad that you are back into the blogger land rhythm! You are very kind about me giving classes but I'll be so worry if any of my students didn't get into the grove of things!
Well, Ofelia, that would be their choice. But you will have planted the seed and seeds have a way of sprouting at some point.
Besides, I was meaning a class of adults. You are a teacher - I know you could come up with a good participative lesson plan that would be fun, meaningful and very colorful. I'm serious. I would come. Even if you touch just one, well two, because I would be one, person's life for the better, you will have touched a whole world.
I'm glad to be back too.
p.s. I bet the new marrieds would love your photo of her veil sweeping through the flowers and sand It's art.
