All About My Library...

This post in an ode to my library.

As a small child; I grew up in a house full of people; coming in and out all the time. Having 8 uncles one aunt and many cousins and family friends was at times exasperating.
My refuge were books, magazines, newspapers and the radio. I would climb the backyard tree with a stash of all the books and magazines that I could find and a small antenna radio and stayed up there for hours.

As a teenager and a young women growing in Puerto Rico reading became my favorite hobby. It took me places, it gave me knowledge that none of my friends had, it keep me company when I felt lonely or an outsider in my own house, it gave me strengh, allow me to win fights and be fierce without ever having to throw a punch (eventually I did punch someone with my bookbag), it gave me my daughters names, it taught me about Balenciaga, El Creco, Led Zeppelin, Siddartha, Antonio Gaudi, AC/DC, our Taino and Caribe Indian history and so much more.

Books enriched my life and when I started my family my girls were not allowed to watch much TV (except for Disney movies) because all of our free time was spend reading and doing art projects. Back in 2004 when I was downsizing we gave away close to 300 books from my girls younger years and we kept the most memorable one. Today the girls and myself still read often and we love our books.

Here is to our small library area (With Love and Appreciation).

My Saint Michael Altar, Harry Potter Books, some of my art books, books from the years I lived in New York and books from the late 70's and mid 80's from Puerto Rico, My records boxes, my yellow submarine figurines, plants, Hubble expandable.

My oldest daughter made the cross for her communion class.

Most of our cds. We have more in our rooms, the car and the closets. Flowers photos from a 2011 calendar.

I had more books on my closet.

The girls manga collection, a rain stick and paper shredder.

More flowers photos.

More of the girls children books, more yellow submarine figurines and in the back of it some of my graduate work.

Vix, thank you so very much. Like I mentioned before I'm a bit of a cleaning freak. And I love my books to much to let them be messy.

I'm so glad your girls are readers - it is such a joy! And they are Roald Dahl fans - how FABULOUS is he! I still re-read his adult works every couple of years (Tales of the Unexpected still makes me shudder!).
